It used to be a whorehouse. I like that it's got a tarty history. The best places do
—Maisy, to Lorelai[src]

Sniffy's Tavern is a restaurant on Gilmore Girls, located in Connecticut.

About[]

The tavern is a medium-sized restaurant in Connecticut, serving app. 100 costumers. It appears to serve hearty food and generally good value American cuisine with no frills. It has a dark and cosy ambience.

Story[]

Sniffy's Tavern is Luke's personal haunt where he comes for dinner or breakfast, whenever he has time. Lorelai refers to it as "Luke having a Luke's". The owners, Maisy and Bertram, are a sort of surrogate family to Luke, as Maisy is his late mother's friend from school and Buddy helped Luke with opening his own business. When Luke brings Lorelai to the Tavern, she reads the story of the place on the back of the menu, but doesn't finish it as their drinks arrive and the date begins. Below is the part she manages, which ends on rather a cliffhanger.

Sniffy's Tavern: A Story Of Love.

Maisy Fortner and Bertram 'Buddy' Linds met at a high-school basketball game. She was playing, he was not. They fell in love, got married. Buddy went to work at a dairy, and Maisy worked at the school, but they dreamed to someday own a restaurant so that all of their friends and family could come and eat and visit and laugh with them every single day.

One day Sniffy, their beloved dog, ran away. Maisy and Buddy searched high and low for him. Finally they stumbled past a dilapidated old tavern that had been boarded up for years. They heard a dog howling. They forced open the door, and there was Sniffy, stuck underneath a fallen beam. Maisy and Buddy pulled Sniffy free and rushed him to the vet, where he immediately went into emergency surgery. Four hours later... Sniffy was dead.

Layout[]

It appears to be a cottage type building of wood housing a ground floor space with visible wooden beams, divided into sections by low wooden walls. The seating is either chairs and tables or circular wooden booths with built-in benches upholstered with dark red vinyl cushioning. The restaurant is dimly lit by exposed light bulbs in warm orange hues or old oil lamps. The walls are decorated with pictures and paraphernalia.

Trivia[]

  • Although Luke visits often and consider Maisy and Buddy family, they and the Tavern are only seen and referenced in one episode.
