Hep Alien is a fictional band on Gilmore Girls. It is originally formed in Stars Hollow in 2002.
About[]
Hep Alien is a band, originally formed by Dave Rygalski (guitar), Brian Fuller (bass), Zack Van Gerbig (guitar), and Lane Kim (drums) in 2002 in Stars Hollow. They play a variety of covers as they start out, mostly within the post-punk, glam rock, indie rock genre. They aim at eventually producing their own music and play gigs around Stars Hollow to earn money for that aim. When Dave leaves for college in California in 2003, the band chooses veteran guitarist Gil as his replacement.
Story[]
Lane responds to the band's flyer for a drummer and meets the leader of the band, Dave Rygalski, to audition. They bond over their mutual love for music and shared vast musical knowledge. Dave welcomes Lane to the band and they start rehearsing together with Brian and Zack. As Lane aims to keep her musical alter ego secret from Mrs. Kim, the band has trouble rehearsing in Sophie's Music, as Lane is afraid her mother will detect them and barely allows them to make a sound on their instruments. It quickly becomes unsustainable and Dave asks Lane to look for an alternative solution, as he wants her to stay in the band. Lorelai offers to have them rehearse in her unused garage, on the edge of town where they can freely play. While this is taking place, Lane scores Dave, Brian, and Zack a gig as a 'Christian trio' for religious events at Kim's Antiques, to make the band money.
At the end of their senior year, the band get their first gig is at a house party at Kyle's house, where they play cover tunes. It's a mixed success, as people enjoy the music, but Zack is being overzealous, Dave is distracted by Young Chui trying to move in on Lane, and Lane gets drunk because she's overwhelmed with keeping up the charade with her mother.
Though the band breaks up when Lane and Zack break up, they get back together a few months later and pursue their steady climb to minor success, with a profitable tour (of Seventh Day Adventists churches) to its credit.
Trivia[]
