Edward Herrmann (July 21st, 1943 - December 31st, 2014) was an Emmy and Tony-winning American actor. He portrayed Richard Gilmore on WB drama Gilmore Girls.
In 1997, he won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor for his work on The Practice. He won a Tony award in 1976 for Best Actor in a Play for "Mrs. Warren's Profession". He has done a great deal of voiceover work, as well as undertaking a variety of television and movie roles. When the Gilmore Girls were to be part of a reunion panel at ATX in June of 2015, Herrmann was the first to RSVP that he was attending.
At the age of 71, Edward Herrmann died from brain cancer on December 31, 2014. At the Gilmore Girls reunion panel at ATX in June of 2015 a seat was left open for him.
